Technical overview
Peening (Almen) test strips provide a standardized response to the energy delivered by a peening stream. After exposure, arc height is measured with a suitable gage and evaluated as part of the saturation curve.
Applications and process control
Strips, gages and holders work as one measurement system. Correct strip grade, secure mounting, calibrated measurement and consistent handling are necessary for comparable results. The transitional term Peening (Almen) retains the established industry name while clearly describing its use.
- Select the appropriate strip grade for the specified intensity range.
- Mount strips consistently in compatible holders.
- Measure arc height with a verified, calibrated gage.
- Record saturation and intensity data for process traceability.
